Monday 2nd July
June 18th - The Red Deer, Pitt St (off West St) - 8.00pm
There are two copies of The Zapatistas - a rough guide left. This book is the outcome of a trip to the Zapatista regions in Mexico by a group of UK activists. An accessible account of the Zapatista struggle - £5. If you'd like one please get in touch (or come to the meeting).
Sheffield Environmental Action campaigns and takes action on environmental and social issues. In October we organised a Critical Mass bike ride in Sheffield to show solidarity with those protesting in Den Haag Climate Change summit in Holland.
More recently we've joined in the protests against Gap, performing street theatre on Gap's opening day highlighting the Gap owners destruction of old growth Redwood Forest in California. We also helped put pressure on Sainsbury's in March, against GM animal feed (see news section) - a policy they have now changed.
Currently we are active with the campaign to stop the peat mining at Thorne and Hatfield Moors AND also the Sheffield Incinerator Campaign.
We are also hoping to put a Samba band together soon. If you'd like to be involved with this (even if you know nothing about Samba) let us know.
We are an independent grassroots group that organizes without heirarchy.
We meet regularly so if you'd like to get involved please drop a line to: jimthackery@yahoo.co.uk
